316 pounds! Ugh
316 pounds! Obviously, life has been good to me lately. Perhaps a little too good. It's time to lose weight.
I'm reminded of a story about Winston Churchill. It a well known fact that he enjoyed drinking and sometimes he did it to excess. An exasperated woman once exclaimed at a dinner party, "Sir, you are drunk!"
"And you are ugly." Winston retorted. "In the morning, I will be sober, and you will still be ugly."
Being overweight is a little like being drunk. I can choose to weigh less in the morning and that is what I will do. There are many parallels between being drunk and being overweight. Too many to get into now.
I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Greg. I am 58 years old. I am a chemist by training, a woodworker by avocation, a husband and a father. I am 6 feet 1 inch tall and heavy framed. My ideal weight would be around 220 pounds. Getting to my ideal weight would be a big weight loss. I am going to go for less than that. I want to lose 50 pounds.
My eating issues are fairly straight forward. I simply love to eat! I do not eat out of loneliness, or frustration, or anger, or insecurity. I eat because it tastes good and more tastes better. When you couple this with a job change that puts me at a computer most of the day, and a metabolism that is slowing due to my age, you can see how I've managed to pack on so much weight.
I intend to go on a 2000 calorie per day diet. In addition, I intend to walk 2 miles per day to get my metabolism up, and to get my body into better shape.
316 pounds is more weight than I need to carry. Losing it is bound to help my arthritic knees and back. I'll keep you posted on the progress.
